The high quality of the presentations that we have at the iMoot is what keeps both presenters and attendees coming back year after year. If you are new to presenting at an iMoot - don't worry, you'll get help and guidance from the team to make sure everything runs smoothly.

To submit a presentation proposal please select the 'Add Entry' tab below. We'll do the rest, and get back to you to confirm whether it has been accepted.

If you can not see the 'Add Entry' tab, either you haven't set up an account on the site, or the call for presentations has closed.

Thanks!

Moodle for Improvement of Academic Literacy and Language Skills

Content Type: How To's

Target Audience: Teacher / Course Creator

Language: English

Description of Presentation

The careful design and implementation of educational technology use in language teaching has great potential since it moves language learning towards an authentic and valuable academic literacy. As a collaborative and interactive online provider, Moodle can offer ample opportunities to construct knowledge from and across relevant sources and enable learners to showcase the learning outcome in written or oral form (podcasts and videos).  Moodle may engage students to produce language realistically in order to interpret, synthesize and convey information that they have read or heard. Instead of static tasks the ones designed on Moodle can offer dynamic, collaborative, interactive, cognitively challenging and authentic tasks that encourage students to analyse ideas critically and communicate authentically which in return bolster creativity, idea generation, opportunities for integrated reading, listening, speaking and writing abilities, leading to advance of general language proficiency. This workshop aims to discuss the educational benefits and potential of such discourse synthesis tasks on Moodle and models the application and class use of these in a university setting for ELT in Turkey.  At the end there will be discussion regarding potential of these integrated tasks, how to adapt them and overcome challenges that may be encountered in class.
